We tie the arrest and criminal prosecution pf our companion exclusively with his public activities. Dmitry Baranovsky took an active part in public social investigations of human rights violations held by IPO «Spravedlivost». He was one of those who publicized facts of corruption and abuse. One of such investigations was tied with large-scake embezzlements and abuses in Moscow region.
It seemed like it was a secret for nobody that officials steal and bribe. However IPO «Spravedlivost» had only name the ones who turned their positions into sinecures, when repressions began against our organization, its activists and those who appealed to us for help. First Andrey Stolbunov, chairman of Board of Sirectors of IPO «Spravedlivost» was exposed to criminal prosecution. The case was re-launched and suspended several times until it broke ultimately.
At the same time fabrication of Dmitry Baranovsky’s case was under way, and it was maintained by searches in the offices of IPO «Spravedlivost» and its partners in anti-corruptive activities, at work and in the places of residence of its activists. Although nothing unlawful was found during these searches, forces and funds spent were not little.
Corrupt officials tried to turn out anti-corruptive investigations into «commercial orders». But when, following our materials which our organization gave to law-enforcement authorities, multi-million losses caused to the country were revealed, and actions were brought into caught, the officials staked everything.
This was how criminal case No. 304540 of «extortion by way of distribution of discrediting information» was born. Dmitry Baranovsky was declared extortioner, and members of IPO « Spravedlivost» were introduced as distributors of «discrediting information.
Now the investigation tries present Baranovsky as «embodiment of the universal evil», and the rest members of our organization as his «partners in crime». But unfortunately, the image necessary for the customer failed to come into sight. That was because of the lack of matter in which they tried to blame Dmitry for. No extortion, no threats, no other similar «operative gruesome stories» permanently told by investigator Nikolay Kuklin at each sitting of the court where the matter of extension of the term for holding in custody Baranovsky is considered.
It is evident for us that everything that is done now within criminal case No. 304540 pursues two goals: shield the figurants of large-scale abuses and silence our organization which disclosed a real black hole in Moscow region where milliards of budgetary roubles had disappeared. |
